With just less than two-thirds of the Royal Rumble 2014 participants announced and the pay-per-view to commence in nine days, there will be room for surprise entries. What makes surprise speculation so fun this time of year is the multitude of return rumors, some of which come true. This year's rumors brought about the familiar slew of names, from Hulk Hogan to the Ultimate Warrior to Batista to Sting to Chris Jericho. Several of those rumors have already come to fruition. Being that this is the road to a milestone WrestleMania XXX pay per view, all of them should be taken seriously.

One potential return many haven't been talking about is that of Rob Van Dam, whose previous WWE run lasted just three months. PWInsider (via WrestlingInc) quietly reported there are plans in place for RVD to return at the Royal Rumble. On the December 30 edition of Raw, Brock Lesnar returned with his agent Paul Heyman to announce his intentions to challenge the winner of the match between Randy Orton and John Cena for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Brock Lesnar then called out any wrestler who wanted to stop him like Undertaker, which resulted in Mark Henry answering the challenge and the two brawling until Lesnar speared Henry through the ringside fan barricade.
